Influenza

Influenza, or flu, is commonly spread through airborne droplets. It infects and weakens the cells in the respiratory tracts before causing a lung infection. There are different influenza virus strains, namely Type A, B and C based on their core proteins. Only types A and B cause human disease of any concern. Type A virus exhibit antigenic shifts and has many different subtypes while type B do not have any subtypes. [2] As the mutation rate of influenza is high, WHO will determine the concerning strain annually. The vaccines will also be designed and manufactured annually to match the circulating virus which are expected to cause the next epidemic.

There are two flu seasons, the northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere flu seasons. Yearly vaccination is recommended as flu viruses are constantly changing, and your body’s immunity to flu viruses may decline over time. Thus, getting vaccinated every year provides the best protection against influenza.

Influenza Vaccine (Split Virion), Inactivated Quadrivalent

For many years, flu vaccines were designed to protect against three different flu viruses: an influenza A(H1N1) virus, an influenza A(H3N2) virus and one influenza B virus, even though there are two different lineages of B viruses that circulate during most seasons. Adding a B virus from the second lineage was done to give broader protection against circulating flu viruses [3].

Our vaccine offers the additional protection against 4 different strains. It has been in the China market for over 20 years and had since manufactured over 70 million doses.  The manufacture of the vaccine is updated yearly according to WHO’s recommendation of strains expected to cause an epidemic in the upcoming year.

There are two dosages 0.5 mL and 0.25 mL for adults and children respectively. Our vaccine is exported to countries such as Canada, the United State of America, Pakistan and many more.
